Start with the situation
It is easy to describe a repeated habit as a failure of willpower. A more useful starting point is a question: what is happening around it?
Think about a familiar moment. You reach for your phone while waiting, put off a difficult task, or return to the same routine at the end of a long day. Before deciding what should change, notice where you are, what happened just before, and what the action gives you in that moment.
A small experiment
Choose one pattern you want to understand. Write down the situation, the action, and what happened next. Keep the description specific and free of judgement.
Then try one small adjustment to the situation. Put the phone somewhere else, prepare the first step of the task, or make room for a pause before your usual routine.
The aim is curiosity rather than a perfect streak. What made the alternative easier? What made it harder? A useful observation can be more valuable than a sweeping promise.
Understanding before changing
A habit is part of a life, not an isolated character flaw. Looking closely at its context creates room for a more thoughtful next step.
